Overview

OpenMarkdown is an Android app for viewing, editing, organizing, and converting Markdown documents. This privacy policy explains what data the app handles, how that data is used, and the choices available to you.

Data You Provide

OpenMarkdown processes files, document content, tags, favorites, recent files, and preferences that you choose to open or create in the app. This information is stored locally on your device unless you explicitly share a file or link outside the app.

Files and Document Content

Files you open, edit, scan, or convert are processed on-device. OpenMarkdown does not upload your document contents to a remote server as part of normal app behavior. If a Markdown file references remote images or links, your device may contact those third-party servers when you choose to load that content.

Purchases and Billing

If you subscribe to OpenMarkdown Pro, purchase processing is handled by Google Play Billing. OpenMarkdown receives purchase state and entitlement information needed to unlock premium features. Payment credentials are handled by Google and are not stored by the app.

Analytics

OpenMarkdown includes an analytics setting that can be turned on or off in Settings. If analytics is enabled, the app may collect anonymous usage information and diagnostics to improve reliability and product decisions. If analytics is disabled, OpenMarkdown does not send analytics events.

Local Storage

OpenMarkdown stores application data locally on your device. This may include:

• Recent files and favorites
• Document metadata and tags
• Editor drafts and saved Markdown documents
• App preferences such as theme, font, and scanner interval
• Conversion history needed for app features

Sharing and External Services

OpenMarkdown may interact with third-party services only when needed to provide a feature you use. Examples include:

• Google Play Billing for subscriptions
• Remote websites when you open external links
• Remote image hosts if a Markdown document references online images

OpenMarkdown does not sell your personal data.

Security

OpenMarkdown validates file URIs before use, sanitizes rendered HTML content, and limits file sizes for supported document operations. No system can guarantee absolute security, but the app is designed to reduce unnecessary data exposure and unsafe input handling.

Your Choices

You can control analytics in the app settings. You can also delete local app data by clearing the app's storage from Android system settings or by removing documents and history from within the app.

Children

OpenMarkdown is not directed to children under 13.

Changes

This privacy policy may be updated as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected in an updated version of this policy.
